If you are a long time reader of JustDoingMyBest, you know how much I love my local consignment shop and how I shop for “free” when I’m there. Last week, I paid about $1.30 and that was the first time in years I had to dig into my wallet.
For those who are new to my [...]

Ladybug Apples
I love making fruits and vegetables more fun for children. Based on my daughter’s reaction upon seeing this Ladybug Apple, one would have thought she saw mounds of candy instead.
Simply slice the apple in half. If the apple will not be served immediately, brush or spray lemon juice on the cut sides to prevent browning.

Mom’s Flu ToolBox and Back-Up Plan
I recently had the privilege of chatting with Dr. Gwenn, of Pediatrics Now, about keeping moms healthy during flu season. She reminded us of how pivotal our roles are and when we are sick, the home will suffer unless we are prepared.
Her explanation says it all, “Moms are the family planner, hostess, chauffeur, entertainment director, [...]
Sage Sausage Bread
This dish is a cross between Thanksgiving Dressing and biscuit. This year, our family will enjoy this Christmas morning.
Ingredients:
1 pound sage pork sausage
1 small onion, chopped
1 jalapeno pepper, chopped
1/2 cup shredded Swiss (We had cheddar on hand and it worked well.)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten

1/3 cup milk
2 cups baking [...]
The Secret Thrift Shop
I’m convinced each town has a secret thrift shop and I’m so excited to have found the one near me. (If you know me personally, I’d be happy to fill you in on my secret store.) If you live near a large city, there will be one near you too. I live in the county [...]

Edit: ** This coupon has now reached its print limit and the promotion is over. **

Shop Early for Deals from Hasbro and PlaySkool
In last Sunday’s paper, there were coupons for Hasbro and PlaySkool. But, there are also several coupons online, which means you can purchase more items, inexpensively. This is a great scenario if you have several young children to buy for.
I stopped by our local Walmart and jotted down the current prices so I can give [...]
“Painted” Pumpkins
It’s amazing what can come from a paint pen, some Sharpies in fun colors and hairspray. The children and I had a fantastic time painting (coloring?) pumpkins after a chilly, ok- freezing, Fall Festival.
I thought this was a fun way to decorate our kitchen table. I used a white paint pen and large black Sharpie. [...]
