“I want to spend every dime I have on beauty products”, said no one ever!!
We all want to look and feel our best, but cosmetics and beauty products can get really pricey.
Like you, I have some favorite beauty products that are pretty awesome and work well for me. But, let’s be honest, even though we have favorites, it would be nice if we could find alternatives that didn’t break the bank.
I’ve been on a mission lately to find Drugstore Diamonds. Great drugstore beauty products that will make me abandon some of their pricier counterparts.
Recently, I made friends with 2 great ladies who work in the cosmetics department at the local Walgreens. Did you know they have Beauty Consultants now? I didn’t. They are knowledgeable and super helpful. They make it so fun to go there and look around and even try out a few new items (they have testers and even some samples).
Here are a few great drugstore beauty products I’ve been using and absolutely love.

Nyx Powder Foundation – I’m really loving this powder foundation. I have very oily skin (even at my age) and have never found it comfortable to use a liquid foundation. This powder stays on and covers without looking cakey. My only issue is that I reached the bottom of the compact quickly. I didn’t run out but was able to see the bottom of the compact in a relatively short amount of time. However, since the price is less than $10 and most great powder foundations are well over $20, even if I have to buy it more often, I’m still saving money.
Neutrogena Waterproof Mascara – I have a couple of favorite mascaras. I’m a bit of a mascara snob. It’s more of an issue with the wand. I hate the rubber wands/applicators all the brands use now. I want a great formula that stays on and I want an old fashioned wand with a wide brush applicator. Is that too much to ask? The Neutrogena Waterproof Mascara is pretty fantastic and stays put!! You’ll definitely need an eye makeup remover. Since I have a lot of skin allergies, I use a great coconut oil.
Almay Intense I Color Eyeliner – I can’t say enough about the Almay eyeliner. It’s less than $10 and I would put it up against most of the eyeliners I’ve used that were twice the price. I don’t even look at other eyeliners anymore. They have great colors, it stays on, easy to apply, and it’s a twist up applicator. I HATE an eye pencil I have to sharpen! I feel like I waste too much product sharpening it.
Nyx Butter Gloss – Ok, let me get back to being a makeup snob for a minute. One of my biggest complaints about lip gloss (besides staying power) is taste. I don’t need to taste fruit or bubblegum in my lip gloss, but I don’t want it to taste like motor oil either. Not that I’ve ever tasted motor oil, but you get the idea. The Butter Glosses come in great colors, they stay on well and have no real taste to speak of. For $5, you can afford to have several colors and still stay on budget!!
Batiste Dry Shampoo – I may be coming to the Dry Shampoo Camp a little late, but I’ve arrived. Lately, everyone seems to be talking about dry shampoo and I had to see what all the fuss was about. I’ve tried several brands, and this one rocks my socks off. I don’t really use it as a dry shampoo though (for “next day hair”). I use it more for adding a bit of texture to my hair. My hair is very, very, very, very straight and very, very, very limp. It needs a little something when I’m styling it. Every product (dry shampoo included) I’ve tried up to this point either dried my hair out, weighed it down or made my hair feel gummy before I even started styling. This is perfect if you don’t want much in your hair before you start styling.
Batiste is also the cheapest dry shampoo I’ve tried. Bonus!! I tried more expensive brands and didn’t like any of them.
Here’s the best part – this one has a touch of color in it. Yeah!!! Not too much, don’t let it scare you. It’s just a hint of color. You really need to try it!!
I may not be able to give up all of my favorite pricier products, YET. But, I’m on a mission to find as many great drugstore products as I can.
Do you have any drugstore beauty products you think I need to try? Please let me know so I can check them out.
