Season ending clearance sales are everywhere at every store. We are bombarded with the signs, the catalogs and the emails.
It can be fun to hit the clearance rack to try and score a fabulous deal on fashion.
But, truth be told, I’m not always attracted to year end or end of season clearance sales.
Don’t get me wrong, I love an amazing deal on clothes (or anything for that matter), but clearance sales are not really my thing.
The reason is that I love the new pieces at the beginning of every season. I can’t wait to see the new colors, the new shoe styles, new tops, new jewelry, everything!!
When the stores start rolling out all the new Spring colors. Summer dresses or new Fall boots, I want them all!!!
Problem is I don’t have an unlimited budget. Sound familiar? If I spend my money on what’s “ending”, I may not have much money left to buy new styles.
And, of course, no new is no fun!!
Plus, when I buy clearance items, I run the risk of not LOVING it next season. That would be a waste of money!!
When I buy items from clearance sales, I want pieces I can wear now AND later. Otherwise, it’s not worth it for me.
I found the best time to buy new items is during a holiday weekend (Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, etc.). You can almost always find 40% off deals and if you shop on the website they are usually offering free shipping as well.
When you shop on line, be sure to check their return policy. Several stores let you return items bought on line directly to the store. That means no shipping for returns.
I recently hit the clearance rack HARD at White House Black Market. They had their clearance items marked down an additional 40% off. Woohoo!!
The clearance rack was filled with jeans. That’s perfect for me. I love jeans and wear them in all styles year round.

These jeans are so cute with a zipper detail at the ankle. I can wear them in the Spring and Summer with open-toed shoes and then with boots in the cooler weather.
These cute “mule” style boots are from one of my favorite places!!
Here are the same jeans with a look for warmer weather.
This time the clearance rack was my friend. I found great jeans that I can wear from Fall, right into Spring and Summer. So, in this case, I definitely saved money.
At the same time, White House Black Market had shorts on clearance as well. I didn’t buy any. They were a great deal, but I have a love/hate relationship with shorts.
I wore shorts this summer. Last year, NO. By the time Summer rolls around next year, I don’t know if I will wear them or not. That means I may or may not have wasted my money. I made the decision not to buy any even though they were a fantastic price.
The next time the season ending clearance sales come around, before you shop, ask yourself if you will LOVE these items next season. Will it really save you money or cost you money? OR, would you rather save your money and wait for the “holiday” and “3 Day Weekend” sales?
If you want fabulous deals all the time, this is one of my favorite websites. They have amazing deals every day. But again, if you can’t wear it now, it may not be the right deal for you.
